LYNNWOOD -- Skagit Valley's offense led them to victory in game one 9-4, but Edmonds hung on for the win in game two 4-3.
The Cardinals produced 12 hits in the contest, and pushed four runs across in the top of the ninth to put the first game out of reach. Starter Matthew DelVecchio was touched for five runs and was hung with the loss. Cole Murawski, Noah Albanese, and Blake Conrad had two hits each.
In game two Edmonds struck first off Michael Snyder's double in the third. Chris Rogers' 2-RBI triple in the sixth proved to be the difference. The Cardinals mounted a comeback bid in the top of the ninth and scored two runs, but Lathan Haywood induced a groundball to end the game. Haywood was credited with the win after taking over for Peter Herrick who hurled five-plus innings, allowing just one run and two hits. Cole Watterson stole three more bases on the day to up his team-leading total to 13. He is sixth overall in the NWAC for stolen bases.
Edmonds (10-9, 1-1) hosts Bellevue (9-14-1, 2-2) on Saturday, March 30 for a 1 p.m. twinbill.
