Pierre honored as Male Athlete of the Year; Shull inducted in HOF
EVERETT, Wash. -- On the night of Wednesday, September 24, two former Tritons were honored at the Snohomish County Sports Commission Banquet and Hall of Fame. The annual event was held at the Angel of the Winds Arena Conference Center in Everett.
Edmonds College men's basketball player Josiah Pierre was selected as the Snohomish County Male Athlete of the Year, and storied Triton baseball coach Fred Shull was inducted into the County's Sports Hall of Fame.
Pierre completed his two years on the court and has continued his academic and athletic journey on a full-ride at NCAA D-II Malone University in Canton, Ohio. The Pioneers are coming off a Great Midwest Athletic Conference title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2024-25. The 6'5'' swingman is a local product from Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. In both his years at Edmonds Pierre averaged over 15 points and 6 rebounds per game, shooting over 50% from the field, and over 37% from behind the arc. Pierre was a two-time NWAC North Region selection and was chosen as a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American. He scored 913 total points as a Triton, leading the program to 41 wins and two NWAC Championship Tournament appearances. Pierre was selected as the 2024-25 Edmonds College Male Athlete of the Year. Pierre moves on with his Associate in Arts transfer degree and plans to study Mathematics or Data Analytics.
Head coach Kyle Gray presented Pierre, and his mother Berline and father Pierrot accepted the award on his behalf.
Shull spent the bulk of his career coaching baseball in Edmonds, where he joined Edmonds High School as an assistant coach in 1967 before taking the head job from 1972-75. He made the leap to Edmonds Community College in 1976, leading the program from 1976-1983 and winning an NWAC championship in 1980. Shull was instrumental in setting the foundation for the success of the Triton Baseball program and was responsible for building the original Triton Field on campus. Shull was inducted into the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1990, the Triton Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014, and the Edmonds-Woodway High School Hall of Fame in 2015.
