Birthday boy Avidan West carries Tritons

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds (12-8, 3-2) topped Whatcom (6-12, 3-2) for an 85-73 victory on Wednesday evening. Edmonds capitalized on their size advantage, scoring 40 points in the paint and blocked eight shots during the contest.

Edmonds opened with a resilient performance, overcoming an early 7-point deficit to the Orcas at 17:05. Avidan West played a pivotal role, scoring multiple times in the paint, including a layup at 2:15 that extended the lead to 10 points. Edmonds capitalized on strong defensive rebounds and executed effectively in the paint, ending the first half ahead 36–27.

West led Edmonds with a key jumper and a 3-pointer early in the second half, helping them establish a 16-point advantage at 17:38. The team maintained their momentum with strong performances in the paint, highlighted by Hunter White and Adonai Daniel, who contributed with crucial layups and free throws. Edmonds held off a late surge from Whatcom, who narrowed the gap with a series of 3-pointers, ensuring a half victory with a score of 49–46. The game concluded with Edmonds on top, securing the win with a final score of 85–73.

West, who's birthday was Wednesday night, finished as the game's top scorer with 30 points, converting 12 of 21 field goals and adding four free throws, while also recording two steals. White collected 16 rebounds and scored 10 points, shooting 4 of 7 from the field. Daniel contributed 13 points, making 5 of 10 attempts, including one 3-pointer. Kyrylo Kapinos added seven points and two blocks, alongside five rebounds.

Many families from Cedar Way Elementary School filled the stands to support the team for the annual "Triton Day". Next up is rival Everett (9-11, 2-3) on Saturday at the Walt Price Fitness Center. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
