Tritons secure key win to boost postseason hopes
LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds (15-11, 6-5) snapped their three-game skid with an 89-74 victory over Peninsula (5-21, 4-7) on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons were hot from the field, connecting on 73% of their shots, including a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line.
The game began with an Adonai Daniel 3-pointer, and although Peninsula took a brief lead, the Tritons responded, highlighted by a Kyrylo Kapinos trey at the 9:44 mark. Edmonds maintained momentum, backed by Avidan West's 3-pointer at 8:13. In the closing seconds of the first half, Sam Lockhart and Daniel add 3's of their own, and the Tritons took a 42–32 lead into the locker rooms.
Edmonds asserted its dominance in the second half, opening with a commanding stretch that saw Daniel and West each hit crucial 3-pointers, extending the lead to 19 points by 15:26. Hunter White's consistent presence in the paint, with timely layups and defensive rebounds, helped maintain momentum while the defense limited Peninsula's opportunities. Edmonds converted all 14 of its free-throw attempts and secured the win, 89-74.
For the fourth time this season Kapinos reached 20 points, leading the squad with 21 points. He was 8 of 9 from the field and pulled down six rebounds. West contributed a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, and added six assists. Daniel was efficient from beyond the arc, scoring 17 points with five 3-pointers. Lockhart chipped in 16 points, converting all seven of his free throw attempts.
After losses to the top two teams in the NWAC Coaches Poll -- Bellevue and Skagit Valley -- and a tough defeat at Shoreline on Wednesday -- Edmonds' bounce back win has solidified their postseason position.
Next up is Whatcom CC on Wednesday, February 18 in Bellingham. The final two games of the regular season are in Seaview Gym against rival Everett CC, and sophomore night versus Olympic College.
