Edmonds punches ticket to NWAC Tournament!
BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Edmonds College (16-11, 7-5) defeated Whatcom Community College (6-19, 3-9) 97-76 on Wednesday night at WCC Pavilion. The Tritons dominated the paint with 44 points and capitalized on turnovers to add 12 points.
Edmonds opened the first half with a scoring surge, taking an early 5–0 lead following Adonai Daniel's jumper and Avidan West's 3-pointer. The team maintained momentum with effective shooting, culminating in a 12-point advantage at 1:08 on a fast-break layup by Kyrylo Kapinos. The Tritons held a strong presence in the paint, scoring 14 points there, while Whatcom struggled to keep pace. The half concluded with Edmonds leading 45–38.
Edmonds extended its lead in the second half with a commanding performance, highlighted by a strong run that pushed its advantage to 27 points at 5:23. Lopez was instrumental, sinking multiple 3-pointers and contributing at the free-throw line to bolster the team's scoring. The Tritons maintained control throughout, leveraging 21 rebounds and 14 assists to outpace Whatcom. The half ended with Edmonds outscoring Whatcom 52–38, concluding the game with a final score of Edmonds 97, Whatcom 76.
Isaiah Lopez led Edmonds with 22 points, converting five 3-pointers and all three of his free throws. Daniel added 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and collected three rebounds. Kapinos posted 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, contributing a block and a steal. Sam Lockhart recorded six assists and scored seven points in the second half.
With the win the Tritons punch their ticket to the NWAC Championship Tournament. The program has qualified for the postseason for the 11th time in the last 13 years. With two games remaining, it is looking likely they will be the No. 3 seed from the North Region.
