Uusitalo's double-double leads Edmonds past Shoreline

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds (4-11, 1-2) defeated Shoreline (0-17, 0-3), 82-53, with a dominant 31-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Edmonds secured the victory by out-rebounding Shoreline 60-36 and capitalizing with 26 second-chance points.

Edmonds began the first quarter with an early challenge, facing a 10–2 deficit midway through. Ava Uusitalo scored a key layup at 5:48 to put the Tritons on the board and later, Jocelyn Tamayo contributed with a pair of free throws at 2:31 to close the gap. Despite trailing, the Tritons managed to reduce Shoreline's lead to 17–11 by the end of the quarter, with Hailey Mata hitting crucial free throws in the final minute.

Edmonds seized control in the second quarter with a pivotal 14-6 run, establishing a lead with 1:10 remaining on the clock. Darcie Gonzalez contributed significantly, registering a key three-pointer and a layup to keep the momentum. Uusitalo and Mata were instrumental in the paint, each scoring critical layups. The Tritons showcased strong defense with four steals and two blocks, limiting Shoreline's opportunities. The quarter concluded with Edmonds leading 35-32, setting the stage for the remainder of the contest.

Edmonds seized control in the third quarter with a robust 15-point lead established by 5:13, highlighted by Gonzalez's 3-pointer. Uusitalo contributed significantly with crucial rebounds and a layup at 4:08. Shoreline managed only three field goals in the quarter, unable to close the gap. The Tritons finished the quarter ahead, 56–39, maintaining a commanding position in the game.

Edmonds extended their lead with a strong offensive showing in the fourth quarter, highlighted by Niya Allen's early 3-pointer and Payton Fleishman's layup, pushing the score to 59–39. The Tritons maintained momentum with Uusitalo's successful layup and free throw at 5:41, increasing their advantage to 68–48. Mata's consecutive layups further widened the gap, and a late 3-pointer by Fleishman at 2:15 secured a 31-point lead. The game concluded with Edmonds winning decisively, 82–53.

Ava Uusitalo scored 23 points and collected 14 rebounds, including four on the offensive end. Gonzalez contributed 13 points, made two blocks, and recorded four steals. Mata added 15 points, connecting on six field goals and contributing a pair of steals. Fleishman posted 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, securing a double-double.

Next up for the Tritons is a road contest at Peninsula (11-4, 3-0) on Saturday.
