Fleishman records season-high 18 points in loss at Peninsula
PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Edmonds College (5-11, 1-3) fell to Peninsula College (12-4, 4-0) on Saturday, with Peninsula capitalizing on 35 points from turnovers in a 78-40 victory.
Edmonds began the first quarter by keeping pace with Peninsula, momentarily tying the game at 5–5 with Payton Fleishman's three-pointer at 7:35. Despite their efforts, including another three-pointer by Fleishman at 4:06, Edmonds struggled to maintain momentum as Peninsula pulled away. By the end of the quarter, the Tritons trailed Peninsula 22–14.
The second quarter proved challenging for Edmonds as Peninsula's defense smothered their offensive efforts. Despite Niya Allen's layup at 7:35 and Darcie Gonzalez's three-pointer at 5:12, Edmonds struggled with turnovers, committing eight in the period. The home team capitalized on these mistakes, extending their lead to 24 points by halftime. Peninsula outscored Edmonds 22-6 in the quarter, culminating in a 44-20 lead.
Edmonds opened the third quarter with a quick three-pointer from Fleishman, assisted by Kiani Hoolulu, to narrow the gap slightly. Despite a strong defensive effort that included four steals, the Tritons struggled with turnovers, committing seven in the period. Peninsula maintained control, extending their lead with consistent scoring, including a layup by Carliese O'Brien at the 42-second mark. The quarter concluded with Edmonds trailing 63-33.
In the fourth quarter, Edmonds struggled to gain momentum as they faced a series of turnovers that hindered their scoring opportunities. Despite this, Hailey Mata contributed with a layup and a free throw, while Ava Uusitalo added a layup of her own. Peninsula maintained a strong defense, capitalizing on turnovers to extend their lead. The game concluded with Peninsula securing a 78-40 victory over Edmonds.
Fleishman led the Tritons with a season-high 18 points, converting 6 of 13 baskets and draining four of seven 3-pointers. Uusitalo contributed with two steals and seven points while also adding three rebounds. Jocelyn Tamayo was a defensive presence, swiping four steals, while Mata added seven points and two assists, hitting a three-pointer in the third quarter.
