LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds (6-14, 2-6) lost to Bellevue College (11-11, 6-2), 72-37, at home Wednesday night. The Tritons struggled with shooting accuracy, only connecting at a 21% clip from the field. Bellevue capitalized on a huge rebounding advantage, grabbing 52 boards to Edmonds's 32.
Edmonds could not find their rhythm early and failed to convert any field goal attempts in the first quarter. Bellevue built a double-digit lead heading into the second stanza. Darcie Gonzalez hit a three-pointer early in the second quarter and notched a block, but the offense continued to stall. Bellevue took a 27-11 lead into the half.
Bellevue continued to pressure Edmonds, forcing turnovers in the third quarter which helped them widen their advantage. Kiani Hoolulu provided a spark with a 3-pointer at 6:57, followed by Gonzalez's layup that reduced the deficit. However, Bellevue maintained control and went up by over 20 points to end the period and stayed ahead for good to earn the road triumph.
Gonzalez recorded 12 rebounds and nine points, including a 3-pointer. Payton Fleishman contributed 10 points, converting three of her four free throws. Hailey Mata added nine points and distributed two assists. Ava Uusitalo finished with six points and collected seven rebounds.
Next up is a road tilt at Skagit Valley (11-11, 7-1) on Saturday at 6 p.m.
