EC women's hoops prepares for final stretch of season

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Peninsula College showed why they are the top team in the North Region with a resounding 82-30 victory over Edmonds on Saturday night. The Pirates asserted strong defensive presence and forced 13 steals.

Edmonds encountered a challenging start as Peninsula quickly established control, leading 22–6 by the end of the first quarter. Taylor Blancaflor provided a brief spark for the Tritons with a layup at 6:39, assisted by Darcie Gonzalez. Despite a three-pointer from Payton Fleishman at 3:55, Peninsula maintained momentum, closing the quarter with a substantial lead.

Edmonds started the second quarter with a strong 3-pointer from Hailey Mata, assisted by Jocelyn Tamayo, at 9:47. Peninsula responded and maintained a double-digit lead at halftime. In the third quarter Edmonds struggled to find offensive rhythm, going 0-for-10 from the field but managed to score four points. Despite their efforts, Peninsula widened its lead, powered by consistent scoring in the paint and defensive plays, including two blocks and five steals.

Sade Oyebiyi swatted away two shots in the final stanza. Gonzalez finished with 11 points and recorded three steals. Mata added six points and collected two rebounds.

The Tritons topped Shoreline last Wednesday to get back in the win column -- and now with three games remaining -- will look to end their season on a high note. First up is a matchup at Whatcom CC on Wednesday, February 18. Snohomish County rival Everett comes to Seaview February 21, followed by sophomore night against Olympic College on February 25.
