Women's soccer falls to Skagit despite Ishikawa's 11 saves

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds College fell to Skagit Valley College 3-1 on Wednesday, despite a strong performance from Edmonds' goalkeeper, who recorded 11 saves.

The opening period commenced with Amaris Ishikawa in goal for Edmonds, quickly making a save against a shot from Skagit Valley's Riley Lumpkin in the 3rd minute. However, the Cardinals took an early lead with a goal from Shyla Kaai-Montgomer in the 4th minute, assisted by Lumpkin.

Edmonds sought to regain momentum with several corner kicks delivered by Philicidy Lee, but they were unable to capitalize on these set pieces. Ishikawa continued to play a crucial role, making multiple saves throughout the period, including key stops against shots from Kaai-Montgomer and Paige Mason. Despite these defensive efforts, the period closed with the Tritons trailing 1-0.

The second half commenced with Edmonds applying pressure early, as Aliya Boonsripisal took a shot that went wide. Despite defensive efforts by Ishikawa, who saved multiple attempts, the Cardinals managed to score, shifting the momentum. An assist from Aidyn McIntosh led to a decisive goal by Megan Nakamura-Nirei, equalizing the score at 1-1.

Edmonds continued to press with shots from Evey Morgan and McIntosh, but Skagit Valley's defense held firm. The Cardinals regained the lead with a goal by Lumpkin, and later Bella Metz extended their advantage, closing the period at 3-1. The Tritons faced a challenging period, unable to capitalize on several attempts as the game concluded.

The Cardinals took an early lead with a goal by Kaai-Montgomer in the 3rd minute, assisted by Lumpkin. Edmonds' goalkeeper Ishikawa made several key saves, including stopping shots from Lumpkin and Mason. Despite multiple corner kicks by both teams, the period ended with the Cardinals holding a 1-0 advantage.

Edmonds leveled the score in the second period with a goal by Nakamura-Nirei, assisted by McIntosh in the 64th minute. Skagit Valley responded swiftly, reclaiming the lead in the 74th minute through a goal by Lumpkin. The Cardinals secured their advantage when Metz scored in the 85th minute, extending their lead to finish the match 3-1. 

Ishikawa recorded 11 saves across two halves, facing 14 shots in total. McIntosh contributed with an assist and also registered one shot on goal. Nakamura-Nirei scored, converting her only shot into a goal. Morgan and Milina Mazon each finished with two shots, both on target.

Edmonds holds an overall record of 6-6-1 and is 3-5-1 in North Region play. Skagit Valley stands at 7-4-1 overall with a 5-3-1 record in conference action.

Next up: Edmonds will host Everett on sophomore night, Wednesday, Oct. 22. The match is set to begin at 4:15 p.m.
