Triton Volleyball draws Yakima at Elite 8
LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- The NWAC Championship bracket is now set -- Edmonds College will play the first game of the single elimination tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21 against Yakima Valley College.
The Yaks finished as co-champions of the East Region and were the second team to qualify from the South Regional last weekend, after knocking out Centralia 3-0 on Sunday. Yakima (26-10, 13-1) was ranked No. 6 in the final NWAC Coaches Poll. The two teams collided twice this season -- first on September 6 in Spokane, WA (Edmonds won 3-0) and the following week on September 12 in Albany, OR (Edmonds won 3-2).
Of the eight teams headed to Pasco two are from the North (Edmonds, Bellevue), two are from the South (Rogue, Linn-Benton), and four are from the East (Treasure Valley, Yakima Valley, Walla Walla, Spokane). All West region teams were eliminated at Super Regionals.
Edmonds (34-1, 12-0) continues to ride a remarkable winning streak of 33 matches. They have not dropped a match since August 22 in the second game of the season. If the Tritons are able to top the Yaks they will face the winner of Treasure Valley-Spokane on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The strength of the team this year has been its chemistry. Different players have stepped up and risen to the challenge when called on. Sophomore Meredith Moszeter is third overall in the NWAC with a .338 hitting percentage. Freshman Alondra Zambrano is third overall in the conference with 512 digs. As a team, Edmonds leads the NWAC in assists with 1,351.
Edmonds took 5th last year (2024) and in 2021. In 2018 they finished 4th. The only volleyball championship in school history was in 1979 when they had a perfect 16-0 mark.
This is the first year the championship has been held at Columbia Basin College. Pierce College hosted the tournament for several years after it moved from the Tacoma Convention Center.
