Ecklund's walk off homer secures split versus Everett

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Kaden Ecklund's late game heriocs earned Edmonds a split with region rival Everett CC on Saturday night at Triton Field. The Tritons fell to Everett 9–2 in the first game, and notched the 3-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Game 1: Edmonds recorded eight hits, while Everett produced an 11-hit performance, including a decisive five-run third inning. In the third Everett capitalized on an error to open their scoring, with Talan Zenk scoring unearned after Lukas Cheha's single. Blake Skinner delivered a significant blow with a grand slam, bringing in Cheha, Julian Unay, and Lucas Coma, giving Everett a commanding lead. Edmonds responded in the bottom of the inning with Bryce Moser grounding out to second, allowing Lucas Christensen to score, making it 5–1 in favor of Everett after three innings.

In the fifth inning, Everett continued to extend their lead as Skinner doubled, bringing home Unay and Coma. Santiago Herrera scored for Edmonds in the bottom half after an RBI single by Christensen, closing the inning with a score of 7–2 in favor of Everett. The Trojans added two more runs in the sixth inning. Kai Miller and Unay contributed with a single and a sacrifice fly, respectively, bringing the score to 9–2, which is what the final ended up being.

Joshua Martinson started for Edmonds, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, with four walks and three strikeouts. Khristian Prom followed with 2/3 inning, surrendering two earned runs and two walks while striking out one. Brody Agonia faced difficulty, giving up two hits and one earned run without recording an out. Garrett Levenhagen provided stability out of the bullpen with three shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out one. James Kelsey closed out the game, pitching one inning and conceding one hit while collecting one strikeout.

Noah Figuered recorded two hits, including a double, and drew a walk. Herrera scored once and collected two hits with a walk. Christensen contributed with one run and one hit while driving in a run.

The Tritons attempted to rally, with Christensen and Figuered setting the stage in the third by reaching base, leading to Christensen scoring on a groundout by Moser. In the fifth, Herrera's single and subsequent advancement on productive outs positioned him to score on Christensen's RBI single. However, opportunities slipped away with baserunning miscues, including two caught stealings and pickoffs, disrupting potential momentum shifts.

Game 2: The Tritons secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over Everett with a ninth-inning comeback. The game remained scoreless through the first eight innings, with both Edmonds and Everett unable to capitalize on limited opportunities. In the ninth inning, Everett broke the deadlock when Julian Unay doubled, driving in two runs to give the visitors a 2–0 lead.

Edmonds responded in the bottom of the ninth. Bryce Moser doubled to start the rally and Carsen Mann followed with a walk. Santiago Herrera moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice. Kaden Ecklund then delivered a decisive three-run homer, sending the Tritons to a 3–2 win.

Levi Arnold delivered a commanding performance for the Tritons, pitching 6 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run and striking out five batters. He conceded only two hits and issued one walk, maintaining control throughout his start. Aidan O'Neil came in as a relief pitcher, contributing 2 2/3 innings, during which he allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out two. Despite the runs given up, O'Neil secured the win, marking his record at 1-0 for the season.

The Tritons maintained composure under pressure, overcoming missed chances earlier in the game. Edmonds improves to 21-11 overall, and 10-4 in the North. Everett maintains the top spot in the region with a record of 27-17 (11-3 in the North).

Edmonds will need to continue to stack wins in order to take the North Region title as Everett now holds the tiebreaker. The Tritons have a home and away series with Shoreline next weekend.
