Cardinals edge Triton men's soccer 4-2

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Skagit Valley defeated Edmonds College 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Edmonds, despite the home team's seven shots on goal.

The first half began with Edmonds College pressing early, as Josue Hernandez and Jose Sanchez each forced the Skagit Valley goalkeeper Shu Kawajiri into action. Despite the early pressure, Edmonds fell behind in the 9th minute when Rory Hayes scored for the visitors. The Tritons responded effectively, as Omar Ishtaiwi equalized in the 29th minute, assisted by Mariano Fernandez Oro.

As the half progressed, the Tritons continued to challenge the Skagit Valley defense, with Tucker Stephens' attempt saved and Levi Martinez's shot hitting the post. However, Skagit Valley regained the lead with Jovanny Lopez's goal in the 37th minute, assisted by Rory Hayes. The half concluded with Edmonds trailing 2-1.

The second half commenced with Edmonds College trailing. Early attempts to equalize included a shot by Jose Sanchez that struck the crossbar, maintaining the pressure on Skagit Valley. However, Skagit Valley extended their lead with a goal by Jovanny Lopez at the 50:07 mark, assisted by Rory Hayes.

Edmonds responded when David Phan found the net in the 71st minute, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. Skagit Valley quickly countered with a goal by Danny Gonzalez in the 73rd minute, reestablishing their two-goal advantage. Despite several attempts from the Tritons, including a saved shot from Ishtaiwi, the half concluded with Skagit Valley maintaining a 4-2 lead.

The match started with Edmonds College and Skagit Valley vying for early control. Skagit Valley took an early lead in the 9th minute with a goal from Rory Hayes. Edmonds College equalized in the 29th minute when Omar Ishtaiwi scored, assisted by Mariano Fernandez Oro. However, Skagit Valley regained the lead in the 38th minute with a goal by Jovanny Lopez, assisted by Hayes, ending the first half with a 2-1 advantage. Both teams had multiple shots and fouls, but Skagit Valley capitalized better on their opportunities.

Skagit Valley extended their lead to 3-1 early in the second half with a goal from Jovanny Lopez in the 50th minute, assisted by Rory Hayes. Edmonds responded in the 72nd minute when David Phan found the back of the net, narrowing the score to 3-2. However, Skagit Valley quickly regained a two-goal advantage just two minutes later, with Danny Gonzalez scoring in the 74th minute. The Tritons' Jack Neumeyer made several key saves throughout the half, but Skagit Valley maintained their offensive pressure, holding on to secure the 4-2 victory.

David Phan scored one goal and contributed three total shots, two of which were on target. Omar Ishtaiwi also found the back of the net, finishing with all three of his shots being on goal. Jack Neumeyer made seven saves during his 90 minutes in goal, facing 11 shots. Mariano Fernandez Oro provided an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts.

The Tritons are 0-11-1 overall and 0-8-1 in conference play. Skagit Valley holds a record of 5-4-0 overall and 6-4-0 in conference play.

Looking ahead, Edmonds College will host Everett on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with the match set to begin at 2 p.m. This final home game will be sophomore night.
