Edmonds defeats Lane 3-0 in Super Regional opener

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds College (33-1, 12-0) secured the 3-0 sweep over Lane Community College (16-14, 9-7) at Seaview Gym on Saturday in their Super Regional opener. The set scores were 28-26, 25-16, and 25-22. The Tritons recorded 44 kills with a .200 hitting percentage while limiting their opponent to a .113 hitting percentage.

Edmonds began the first set with strong contributions from Haley Yost and Lizzie Takau, who each delivered key kills. Despite an early lead by the Titans, the Tritons capitalized on multiple attack errors by their opponents and added a service ace from Meredith Moszeter to narrow the gap.

In a back-and-forth exchange, the home team managed to tie the score at 17-17 with a block by Takau, which sparked a brief lead. As the set progressed, both teams exchanged points, with the Tritons taking advantage of Lane's miscues. Edmonds secured the set with kills from Jayda-Lee Kaeo, closing the set out 28-26.

Edmonds initiated the second set with a powerful sequence, capitalizing on a kill from Yost assisted by Abby Barrow to set the tone. The momentum remained with the Tritons as Alondra Zambrano delivered a service ace and contributed to a series of plays that resulted in a 6-0 run, highlighted by kills from Moszeter and Olivia Miller. The Titans attempted to respond, narrowing the gap to 9-5, but Edmonds maintained control.

Midway through the set, the Tritons extended their lead with service aces by Moszeter and consistent setting from Barrow. Despite a brief rally from Lane, which brought the score to 16-11, Edmonds continued to exploit errors from the opposition, widening the margin further.

The set concluded with Edmonds firmly in command, as Kaydence Green sealed the set with a final kill, completing the decisive 25-16 victory. 

The third set began with Edmonds gaining momentum after a service ace from Kaeo, leveling the score early at 2-2. Takau and Moszeter contributed key kills, propelling the Tritons to a 6-3 advantage. However, a series of exchanges ensued, with Lane briefly tying the score at 9-9.

Edmonds then surged ahead, with Green and Yost adding significant points, maintaining a narrow lead at 17-16. Barrow's offensive efforts, combined with a crucial service ace from Keikilani Iwaki, extended the Tritons' advantage to 19-16.

As the set reached its climax, Yost's consistent performance resulted in multiple kills, pushing Edmonds to a 24-21 lead. Despite a late challenge from the Titans, an attack error by Bailey Hoover secured the set for the home team, closing it out 25-22.

Yost recorded 11 kills and added 17 digs, contributing significantly to the team's defensive efforts. Zambrano also bolstered the defense with 16 digs while providing seven assists in the match. Moszeter led the serving with three aces and tallied seven kills on 19 attempts. Barrow facilitated the offense with 23 assists and contributed five kills, rounding out her performance with 10 digs.

Edmonds extended their school-record 32-game win streak and advanced to the 10 a.m. game on Sunday. With a win they will punch their ticket to the Elite 8. 

In the first match of the regional Lower Columbia outlasted Walla Walla 3-2 to advance to the 10 a.m. vs. Edmonds on Sunday. Walla Walla swept Lane in the elimination game and will move on to Sunday, facing the loser of Edmonds-Lower Columbia on Sunday.
