Another straight set victory for Edmonds Volleyball

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds College (28-1, 8-0) secured a dominant straight-set victory over Whatcom Community College (5-16, 3-6) on Friday, winning 25-12, 25-10, 25-18, while delivering seven service aces and holding the Orcas to a negative hitting percentage.

Edmonds began the first set with a strong start, quickly building a 3-0 lead with contributions from Olivia Miller and a block by Kamaleimahie Auwae. Whatcom briefly tied the score at 4-4, but the Tritons regained control as Auwae and Haley Yost each added kills to push the score to 8-6.

Edmonds maintained momentum with Alondra Zambrano serving an ace and benefiting from Whatcom's errors, stretching the lead to 15-8. The home team continued their steady performance with Abby Barrow leading a sequence that included a service ace and a kill, extending the score to 22-9.

As the set neared its close, Edmonds capitalized on Whatcom's errors and a decisive service ace from Jayda-Lee Kaeo to secure a 25-12 victory in the set.

Edmonds capitalized on a strong offensive start in the second set, quickly building momentum with a series of kills from Miller, Yost, and Meredith Moszeter. This early push was supported by solid assists from Auwae and Barrow, leading to a 4-0 run that set the tone for the set.

The team extended their lead to 15-5, benefiting from Whatcom's attack errors and effective blocks by Malique Sweet and Auwae. Edmonds maintained control throughout, with significant contributions from Millea McMurry and Barrow, who added a service ace to the tally.

As the set progressed, Edmonds continued to apply pressure, with Moszeter and Yost delivering crucial kills. The set concluded with a decisive service ace from Yost, closing the set at 25-10 in favor of the Tritons.

Edmonds started the third set with a decisive kill from Auwae, setting the pace early. Barrow was instrumental, providing multiple assists, leading to a 4-2 advantage. A series of errors by Whatcom, including a bad set and a service error, allowed Edmonds to maintain momentum, extending their lead to 9-5.

Midway through the set, key kills from Kaydence Green and Moszeter helped Edmonds fend off a brief Whatcom rally, keeping the score at 13-9. Despite a service ace from the Orcas narrowing the gap, Edmonds responded with a strong defensive block by Auwae, leading to a 15-10 cushion.

In the closing stages, Edmonds capitalized on attack errors by Whatcom and delivered timely kills from Yost and Barrow. Edmonds maintained control, closing the set with a 25-18 victory.

Edmonds holds a commanding 28-1 overall record and is undefeated at 8-0 in North Region play. Whatcom stands at 5-16 overall with a 3-6 record in conference competition.

Yost led with nine kills and added eight digs. Auwae showcased efficiency by hitting .500 with four kills and contributed four total blocks. Zambrano was defensive with a team-high 20 digs and also added two assists. Barrow facilitated the offense with 16 assists and posted three service aces.

Edmonds travels to Skagit Valley on October 29.
