Edmonds College Volleyball wins North Region Title!
LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds College (31-1, 11-0) secured a decisive 3-1 victory over Bellevue College (27-2, 9-2) on Wednesday evening, with set scores of 13-25, 25-21, 28-26, and 25-23. Edmonds' strong performance in the third set, winning 28-26, proved pivotal in maintaining their perfect region record. The Tritons extended their school-record 30-game winning streak and secured the North Region title.
In the first set Bellevue came out firing on all cylinders. Edmonds managed a late rally with points from Haley Yost and defensive stops but Bellevue secured the 25-13 win, despite Edmonds' efforts to close the margin with a series of late points.
Edmonds began the second set with a kill from Kaydence Green, assisted by Alondra Zambrano, setting the tone for a competitive frame. Miller and Yost contributed early kills, establishing a slim lead despite Bellevue's temporary advantage from a service ace and attack errors.
Momentum swung in favor of Edmonds as they capitalized on Bellevue's attack errors, aided by blocks from Green and Kamaleimahie Auwae, to build a four-point advantage. Consistent play from Yost and Miller extended the lead, with Yost recording multiple kills and a service ace to keep the Tritons ahead.
Edmonds maintained their edge through strong defensive efforts, including a block by Green, and additional kills from Meredith Moszeter. Despite Bellevue's attempts to close the gap, the set ended with Edmonds securing a 25-21 win, reinforcing their position in the match.
Edmonds started the third set with a strong offensive push, tying the score at 3-3 with a kill by Moszeter and then taking the lead with a block by Miller. The momentum shifted back and forth, but Edmonds capitalized on Bellevue's errors and extended the lead to 10-6 with kills from Green and Moszeter.
Edmonds continued to build on their advantage, with Barrow serving consecutive aces to bring the score to 16-10. Despite Bellevue's rallying efforts, the Tritons maintained the upper hand with contributions from Green and Auwae, reaching a 20-11 lead.
Bellevue attempted a comeback, closing the gap to 22-18, but Edmonds held firm. A kill by Miller and a late service ace by Barrow helped seal the set. Edmonds closed the set with a 28-26 victory, maintaining their lead throughout the tense exchanges.
In the fourth set, Edmonds overcame an early deficit as Bellevue initially pulled ahead 2-0. Edmonds responded with key kills from Yost and Moszeter, leveling the score at 4-4. The teams exchanged points, with the Tritons capitalizing on Bellevue's errors to maintain close contention at 8-8.
Midway through the set, Green and Auwae contributed crucial points, allowing Edmonds to gain a narrow lead. Despite Bellevue's efforts to tie the score multiple times, the Tritons consistently answered back, highlighted by a kill from Green to regain a 20-19 advantage.
As the set neared its conclusion, a combination of Bellevue errors and strategic plays by Edmonds, including a decisive kill by Miller off an assist from Barrow, sealed the set at 25-23 in favor of Edmonds.
Bellevue, the No. 2 ranked team in the NWAC, has suffered their only two losses of the season to the Tritons. The top-ranked Tritons rose the challenge to outlast the Bulldogs and send their sophomores out on top with the final regular season home victory of their careers.
Yost led the team's efforts with 16 kills and contributed defensively with 19 digs, alongside three service aces. Zambrano was pivotal on defense, securing a team-high 25 digs. Green added 12 kills and two solo blocks, totaling 15 points. Miller proved effective at the net, recording four solo blocks and accumulating 11 points.
Four sophomores were honored prior to the start of the match: Abby Barrow, Olivia Miller, Kamaleimahie Auwae, and Meredith Moszeter.
The regular season concludes on Friday, November 7 with a road contest at Snohomish County rival Everett in a "T" Trophy matchup.
Edmonds will host NWAC Super Regionals as the No. 1 seed from the North Region. Those postseason matches will take place in Seaview Gym on November 15 and 16. Two teams will advance from the Super Regional to the Elite 8 in Pasco, WA November 21-23.
